Cervical screening is offered FREE to all women in the Bailiwick from age 25-65. The test looks for Human papilloma virus (HPV) in the screening test. HPV is a very common virus and can infect the genital area of both men and women. Often you will have no signs or symptoms and it goes away on its own. You maybe unaware you have even had it.
Occasionally, some types of HPV can cause abnormal cells to form in the cervix and sometimes these abnormal cells can develop into cervical cancer.
You will automatically be invited every three years if you are aged 25-49 and every 5 years if aged 50-65. A letter will be sent to you asking you to make an appointment with our Practice Nurse or one of the doctors.
If you have missed your appointment, please contact the IMC on 822077 straight away.
If you have any worries about the screening test, please do not hesitate to ring the surgery and we can arrange for our nurses to ring you back to discuss the test. We also have leaflets at the surgery should you wish to read about the screening test in more detail.
