Out of Hours and Emergency Service

Alderney is unique in that the hospital doctors are also your primary care doctors. This means that they will know you and your family, as well as your medical history and will have a better understanding of your health concerns, especially in an emergency or out of hours.

Blood Tests

Blood test appointments are available each morning from 0800-0930 with our Practice Nurse. We only undertake blood tests if the doctor here or your consultant has asked for them. We can only take bloods at this time as they have to be transferred to Guernsey on the morning flight in order to be processed.

Minor Surgery

The IMC can offer routine appointments for minor surgery which includes removal of skin lesions that are of concern. Some lesions can be removed for cosmetic or functional reasons, but…

Repeat Prescriptions

One of the areas we frequently discuss with patients is how we manage the process of prescribing medication and the controls that we put in place to ensure that any ongoing prescribing is as safe as possible.

Maternity Services

With the closure of the maternity ward at the Mignot Hospital some years ago, pregnant women are now strongly encouraged to deliver their babies safely at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital in Guernsey, on Loveridge Ward. This is a fully staffed, midwife led unit with Obstetric Consultant leads.

Medevacs

Alderney is considered to be a remote island in terms of medical resilience. We often have storms, heavy seas, fog and strong winds, all of which can make it difficult, if not impossible to safely transfer a sick patient to Guernsey.
